History of the Kennel

In the early months of 1968 I saw my first Pyrenean in a glossy magazine Mrs Prince of the famous Bergerie kennels was advertising a booklet so I ordered it  and by the time I'd finished reading it I had fallen in love with the breed. When I finally met my first Pyrenean in the flesh Ch Bergerie Diable I was impressed all over again by the beauty and dignity of the breed. I've always say Pyreneans aren't dogs they are people. They are stubborn and independent, exasperating and quite often need protecting from themselves but from the moment a Pyrenean enters your life it's never the same again, everything has to be adapted to the dog. Higher fences, larger vehicle. Shiresoak is a small kennels where all the dogs are kept as near as possible in a pet environment we tend to keep approx 7 dogs of varying ages and breed a litter when we wish to keep another puppy for show which tends to be every three years.

Our first Pyreneans were purchased in December 1968 Grandian de Fontenay from Mdme Harper Trois Fontaines Kennels and Lisblanc Uralia from Mrs Balls Lisblanc Kennel we started showing in April 1969 and bred our first litter in 1973. Our kennel name simply came from the area we lived in being Three Shires Oak Road, Bearwood, Birmingham. Apparently in the distant past there had been a massive oak which marked the boundary of Worcestershire Staffordshire and Warwickshire also it was all woodland around there and bears lived in the woods, hence the name so it seemed quite appropriate for Pyreneans to come to live with us in Bearwood, in fact they were the nearest thing to bears to be found in the local area as all the bears had been eliminated many years before

We mated Sheba to Ch Zarahemla's Debs Beau in 1974 this was to be our first litter we kept a bitch Shiresoak Solitaire

She wasn't a brilliant show dog but she was mated to Ch Pyregreen Apollo in 1977 and produced Shiresoak Truly Scrumpious and Shiresoak Amouree. We had also in July 1977 bought in a male puppy by the same sire and Dordavian Fidelia who later gained her title, this was Shirlawn Simba of Shiresoak who would later become our first Champion.
